Orioles activate O’Day, option Scott

The Orioles activated reliever Darren O’Day from the disabled list Saturday morning and optioned left-hander Tanner Scott to Triple-A Norfolk to make room.

O’Day has been out since May 5 because of a hyperextended right elbow. Scott, 23, has a 4.96 ERA in 13 relief appearances with the Orioles.

What to watch

1. Gausman. Kevin Gausman has allowed at least six runs in three of his past four starts and has an 8.53 ERA during that time. Perhaps he can put those struggles to a stop facing the Blue Jays, against whom he has a 3.22 career ERA.

2. Sanchez. Aaron Sanchez continues to struggle with his control, as he possesses the third-highest walk rate per nine innings in the majors (5.16). That’s bee a problem for him in two seasons since he went 15-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 2016. Can the ailing Orioles offense take advantage?

3. Wake up. Speaking of that ailing offense, the Orioles are averaging only 2.4 runs over their past 21 games, since a 17-1 win over the Rays on May 13. Hits are the main problem. Only twice in their past 16 games have the Orioles finished with a double-digit hits total. The Orioles will again be trying to get going with struggling slugger Chris Davis on the bench.
