Orioles announce Birdland Caravan, a three-day tour throughout Maryland in February

In place of a traditional FanFest for which they invite their fans to one area in Baltimore, the Orioles instead will travel to them throughout the region.

On Wednesday, the Orioles announced Birdland Caravan, with events in 12 cities throughout the area during a three-day stint Feb. 7-9, with visits to Aberdeen, Annapolis, Bowie, Ellicott City, Fallston, Fort Meade, Frederick, Hagerstown, Timonium, Westminster, White Marsh and York, Pennsylvania. There will be 16 players and prospects participating, as well as Orioles Hall of Fame members, executives and coaches.

“The Birdland Caravan is one of the many new and exciting ways in which we are engaging with fans beyond the ballpark,” said Jennifer Grondahl, Orioles senior vice president, community development and communications in a statement. “This weekend-long winter tour will take the Oriole Park experience directly to fans throughout Birdland and provide opportunities to interact with players, prospects, and alumni, while also demonstrating the organization’s commitment to community outreach with several charitable projects throughout the region.”

There are seven public events during the caravan, as well as seven private events that are community events and school rallies. Players participating include 2019 Most Valuable Oriole Trey Mancini and top prospects Adley Rutschman, Grayson Rodriguez, DL Hall and Ryan Mountcastle, with club Hall of Fame members Eddie Murray, Brian Roberts and Mike Bordick also involved. Both executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias and assistant general manager of analytics Sig Mejdal will take part, as will manager Brandon Hyde, major league field coordinator Tim Cossins and major league coach Fredi González.

The private events are school rallies Feb. 7 at Hall’s Cross Roads Elementary School in Aberdeen and Timonium Elementary School and visits to Fort Meade Military Base, Girls Inc. of Washington County in Hagerstown, Humane Society of Harford County in Fallston and the York County Food Bank throughout the weekend.
