What to watch
1. Stop the spiral. The Orioles are back on the skids, having lost five in a row to drop to 31 games out of first place. Theyāve gone back to struggling offensively, scoring more than three runs just once during the losing streak.
2. Stop the spiral, part 2. The Angels were one of the stories of the American League early in the season, staying in at least a tie for first place on and off into mid-May. But theyāve gone 16-25 since they were last tied for the top spot in the AL West on May 14. That has sunk them to .500 for the first time this season just past the exact midpoint of their schedule.
3. Hess. David Hess has fallen on hard times with five earned runs in each of his past three starts. He preceded that slump with three straight quality starts, but has an 11.25 ERA over his three most recent outings.
