After one year as the club’s hitting coach, former Orioles farmhand Buck Britton was announced as the manager for the Low-A Delmarva Shorebirds in 2018.

The Shorebirds announced that Britton, brother of Orioles closer Zach Britton, would take over for longtime manager Ryan Minor, who has spent seven of the past eight seasons at the helm in Salisbury.

Britton, the Orioles’ 35th-round draft pick in 2008, was a career .270 minor league hitter in nine seasons, the first seven of which were spent with the Orioles before a season apiece at Triple-A with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Minnesota Twins.

Minor, whose place in Orioles lore was solidified when he replaced Cal Ripken Jr. at third base when Ripken’s historic consecutive-games streak ended, is expected to remain in the organization.

The Daily Times in Salisbury first reported the change.
