Boog's BBQ is heading south for Orioles spring training for the first time

Orioles fans don’t have to wait until Opening Day in Baltimore this year to get a stadium staple: Boog’s BBQ.

The Orioles announced Tuesday that the longtime first baseman is bringing his signature barbecue stand to spring training at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Fla., for the first time. Powell opened the stand at Camden Yards in 1992.

The stand will open for business Saturday, the Orioles’ Grapefruit League opener against the Twins at 1:05 p.m. The Orioles said Powell will be attending the opener, as well as select spring training games, to meet and greet fans, just as he does at Camden Yards. His son, J.W. Powell, will operate the Sarasota stand.

“I can’t wait to share it with baseball fans at spring training in Sarasota,” Powell said in a news release.
