Orioles officially re-sign Chris Tillman, designate Jaycob Brugman for assignment

The Orioles officially announced Wednesday morning that they have re-signed right-hander Chris Tillman to a one-year contract.

Despite having 37 pitchers in big league camp, including 24 on the 40-man roster, the team designated left-handed-hitting outfielder Jaycob Brugman for assignment to make room.

Tillman, 29, has gone 73-55 with a 4.43 ERA with 834 strikeouts in 198 career starts (203 games), all with the Orioles. In nine major league seasons, he is tied for 12th in Orioles history in career wins. Tillman also ranks 11th in games started and 13th in innings pitched.

Brugman, 26, was acquired by the Orioles from the Oakland Athletics for pitcher Jake Bray in November. He batted .266 (38-for-143) in 48 games for the Athletics last season.
