Newly acquired infielder Renato Núñez cleared waivers Tuesday and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles.
Núñez, 24, was a touted prospect out of Venezuela when the Oakland Athletics signed him in 2010. He made his major league debut in 2016, but never established himself with the Athletics and was designated for assignment this spring.
He caught on with the Texas Rangers and hit .167 with a double and a home run in 13 games before being designated for assignment last week.
The Orioles claimed him on waivers with the intention of passing him back through, as they did last summer with Luis Sardiñas.
He cleared and thus remains in the Orioles organization.
Núñez hit 32 home runs with a .837 OPS at Triple-A last season.
