Sorting out the Orioles' pitching after Saturday's rainout

The Baltimore Sun
How did the Orioles' rainout on Saturday affect the team's pitching plans over the next few days?

After his scheduled Grapefruit League start on Saturday was rained out, Orioles right-hander Yovani Gallardo will start on Monday in a minor league game.

Even though Monday is the only scheduled off day of spring training, it will make for a busy day at the team’s minor league facility at Twin Lakes Park. Right-hander Kevin Gausman was scheduled to pitch there in a separate minor league game Monday, but had a coritsone shot today and will not pitch. The organization’s two Class-A teams are playing at home, while the Double-A and Triple-A squads are on the road.

Gallardo said he didn’t know how long he was scheduled to pitch on Monday, but it's likely about four innings or 75 pitches. Dealing with spring training rainouts is new for Gallardo, who spent his past springs in Arizona.

Left-handed reliever Jeff Beliveau will also see his first game action since last April 15. He missed most of last season with labrum surgery and has been slowed this spring training.

Right-hander Chris Tillman’s scheduled start today wasn’t affected by the rain. He will face a Rays team full of regulars this afternoon at Ed Smith Stadium, weather permitting.

Five pitchers scheduled to pitch Saturday -- Pedro Beato, Brian Matusz, T.J. McFarland, Todd Redmond and Chaz Roe -- are on the available pitchers list for this afternoon.

Right-hander Tyler Wilson was supposed to pitch after Tillman, but he's not listed among today's available pitchers.
