Mike Wright starts Sunday, bullpen move likely

After Saturday's game, Orioles manager Buck Showalter confirmed the obvious: Rookie Mike Wright will start Sunday's series finale against the New York Yankees.

The 25-year-old right-hander is 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA in four starts for the Orioles this season. He was demoted to Triple-A last week in a roster crunch, but returned Thursday when Miguel Gonzalez was placed on the disabled list.

Wright had been in the bullpen for the past three games, but wasn't needed, which allows him to make Sunday's start. Wright has never faced the Yankees, or any American League East team in his brief career.

The Orioles will be getting lefty reliever Brian Matusz back from suspension Sunday, but Showalter said he expects the club will make another move to fortify its bullpen.

The most likely scenario is to demote T.J. McFarland to Triple-A Norfolk. McFarland is the only current Orioles reliever with minor league options. Despite a 1.93 ERA, none of his 10 appearances have been clean; he has walked eight batters in 9 1/3 innings, including the only hitter he faced Saturday night.

Tyler Wilson, who is supposed to start for Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, is one potential option to join the Orioles bullpen. He is already on the 40-man roster.
