Who is your difference-maker in the ALCS?

Who is your difference-maker in the ALCS?

Here at the bar we've been kicking around storylines for the last couple days on the upcoming Orioles-Royals American League Championship Series.

You can probably figure out most of them.

One of the things we were discussing over 2-for-1 specials was key players to watch in this series.

There's a bunch on each side. But I'm going to make it hard for you today.

I want one name from you – either an Oriole or Royal. Someone who you think will play a huge part in determining the fate of this series.

Again, there a bunch of good ones; there's no right or wrong answer.

Here's mine: Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph.

The rookie is hitless in his last 33 at-bats, dating back to before the final homestand of the season. Knowing the kid, I'm sure that's killing him.

But truthfully, his impact is going to come on defense. He threw out 40 percent of would-be basestealers in the regular season. That's a tremendous mark. But Joseph – and fellow catcher Nick Hundley – will have his work cut out for him with the Royals' renowned track meet. Kansas City led the majors in stolen bases and is 12 for 13 in the postseason.

Hundley likely will start Game 1 with Chris Tillman pitching, but I'd expect it will be Joseph for the next couple after that. I'm going with Joseph.

So who do you think will be the difference maker? Will Nelson Cruz keep it up? Will Eric Hosmer? How about Tillman or Big Game James Shields?
