Less than a day after he was summoned from Triple-A Norfolk in a move that required the Orioles to designate Delmon Young for assignment, right-hander Tyler Wilson was optioned back to the Tides.
The move was necessary so Kevin Gausman, who is starting Thursday's series finale against the Texas Rangers. Gausman last started for the Orioles on June 20, when he allowed two runs on four hits in five innings in a no-decision against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Gausman is facing a Rangers lineup that is batting .259/.327/.417 against right-handers, and they'll likely stack left-handed batters in the lineup against Gausman on Thursday.
Lefties are batting .360/.370/.600 in 25 at-bats against Gausman this season, way above his career .265/.328/.418 major league mark against lefties.
Wilson was added as depth to a bullpen that had carried just six relievers for the beginning of the series. Manager Buck Showalter said Wednesday that Bud Norris will be available in the bullpen Thursday, as it's the right-hander's day to throw a bullpen.
