Latest on rain from Camden Yards and details on Orioles' Game 2 starter

Despite forecasts calling for rain throughout the night, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he is confident that Friday night's American League Championship Series Game 1 will be played.

As of 5 p.m., the tarp is still on the field at Camden Yards. Pitchers are throwing in the outfield, but batting practice has been canceled and both teams will hit in the indoor cages.

If a portion of Friday night's game is played but then postponed, play will pick up at 4 p.m. Saturday at the spot where the game was delayed. Game 2 will then move to Sunday. So tickets for Friday's game will be valid for Saturday and Saturday's tickets are valid for Sunday.

If Friday's game is postponed before lineup cards are exchanged at home plate prior to the game, the teams can resubmit their ALCS rosters Saturday.

Showalter said he is deciding who will be his Game 2 starter between right-hander Bud Norris and left-hander Wei-Yin Chen.

Norris has made two career starts against the Royals and is 0-1 with a 0.68 ERA. Chen is 1-1 with a 4.17 ERA in six career starts against Kansas City, but he is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in two starts at Kauffman Stadium.

Right-hander Miguel Gonzalez will be available in the bullpen Friday.

Gonzalez hasn't pitched since the regular-season finale on Sept. 28. He already has gone 11 days since his last start -- he was scheduled to pitch Game 4 of the AL Division Series in Detroit before the Orioles won the series in three games -- but Showalter said Gonzalez has pitched in several simulated games since then.

Also, a small note on TBS' coverage of the ALCS. The network will feature team-specific reports from commentators with local ties to each club. For the Orioles, Mike Bordick will provide the updates, and Steve Physioc will do the same for the Royals. TBS reporter Matt Winer also will have in-game updates, according to the network.
