Stanford a sizable favorite over Maryland heading into Foster Farms Bowl

Maryland is a 14-point underdog heading into its matchup against Stanford in the Foster Farms Bowl, according to ESPN.

While the Terps and Cardinal are both 7-5, Stanford is coming off of a 31-10 road win over then-No. 8 UCLA.

All five of Stanford's losses came to ranked teams, and three of those losses came by a margin of just three points.

The Cardinal were also down just 24-16 late in the third quarter to College Football Playoff semifinalist Oregon before the Ducks pulled away to a 45-16 victory.

While Stanford is ranked a modest 74th nationally in total offense, the Cardinal are second in the country in total defense, sixth in sacks, seventh in pass defense and 11th in rush defense.

Stanford also has the advantage of playing at nearby Levi's Stadium in San Francisco, which is only about a 35-minute drive from Stanford's campus.

The Terps, however, are 5-1 on the road and should benefit from the return of junior wide receiver Stefon Diggs and senior outside linebacker Matt Robinson.

Diggs, who suffered a lacerated kidney against Penn State on Nov. 1, was cleared to return to practice earlier this month and will play against Stanford. Robinson is expected to play as well after missing the Terps' regular season finale against Rutgers due to a foot injury.
