This will be one of the more interesting spring training games of the year. The Orioles throw top pitching prospects Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman tonight against the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers, Fla.
Unfortunately, it's not a fully representative Boston lineup: No David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia or Jacoby Ellsbury. But it will be interesting to see how Bundy and Gausman do, regardless.
Here are the two lineups:
Boston: Brock Holt 4, Jonny Gomes 7, Jackie Bradley Jr. 8, Mike Napoli 3, Jarrod Saltalamacchia 2, Will Middlebrooks 5, Mike Carp DH, Mitch Maier 9, Jose Iglesias 6. Felix Doubront gets the starting pitching nod. Terry Doyle, Joel Hanrahan and Andrew Miller also may pitch.
Orioles: Alexi Casilla 4, Lew Ford 8, Nolan Reimold DH, Conor Jackson 9, Steve Pearce 7, Russ Canzler 5, Danny Valencia 3, Yamaico Navarro 4, Luis Exposito 2. Also scheduled to pitch besides Bundy and Gausman are Zach Clark, Mike Belfiore, Todd Redmond and T.J. McFarland.
Sunday will also feature a top pitching prospect – but this time he'll be facing the Orioles. Right-hander Gerrit Cole, the UCLA standout who was picked No. 1 in the 2011 draft, three spots ahead of Bundy, will pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Orioles in Sarasota.
Chris Tillman will start that game for the Orioles. Also pitching Sunday will be Miguel Gonzalez, Jim Johnson, Darren O'Day and Mark Hendrickson.
Zach Britton and Jake Arrieta are among the Orioles pitchers for Monday and then most of the team will get a breather on the off day Tuesday.
However, the Orioles do have an intrasquad game at Ed Smith Stadium. The pitchers for that one will be: Jason Hammel, Steve Johnson, Mike Wright, Jair Jurrjens, Eduardo Rodriguez, Troy Patton and Daniel Schlereth.
Reliever Pedro Strop made his second World Baseball Classic appearance for the Dominican Republic and this time it was only one inning. It was dominant again, though. Strop faced three batters and struck out two in the Dominican's 6-3 win against Spain.
He now has faced eight batters and retired them all.
