Showalter not ready to commit to six-man rotation

Because Wei-Yin Chen is returning and Scott Feldman has joined the rotation from the Chicago Cubs, the Orioles currently have six starters. The obvious move would be to send Zach Britton back to the minors or put him into the bullpen (and demote rookie Kevin Gausman), but Britton has acquitted himself well since he returned to the majors and rotation, which may complicate the situation a bit.

"I don't think it's complicated because we're dealing with some good people. What's complicated is when you don't have a good option," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "We'll see how things work in our bullpen the next two or three days. We don't have to do anything for a while, especially with as well as Zach's pitched."

So could Showalter go to a six-man rotation, at least until the end of the first half on July 14? He wouldn't dismiss it, but he wouldn't endorse it either.

"It's an option. It's one that is there for us if we so choose," Showalter said. "I thought about it."
