It was the 19th home run of his brief big league career, but Saturday's blast at Camden Yards was a particularly meaningful one for 23-year-old second baseman Jonathan Schoop.
It was his first grand slam.
"It's tough to get because if you play every day you're going to get like 600 at-bats," Schoop said. "You can get your first home run, but a grand slam, you're not going to get the bases loaded all the time. That's tough to get."
Schoop was pleasantly surprised after the game when he was told that the man who caught the ball was willing to trade it to him for another autographed ball and a pair of tickets for a future game.
Schoop jumped at the offer, had pictures taken with the man and his wife and now has the ball in the top shelf of his locker.
"I shook his hand, told him thank you," Schoop said. "I appreciated him exchanging it. Not everybody's going to exchange that ball. He was good to exchange it for me."
