Ravens offensive tackle Rick Wagner has been rewarded handsomely by the NFL under its performance-based pay program.
Under a system that compensates players with extra money for their playing time based upon a comparison to their salary level, Wagner is due an additional $241,690, according to an NFL management council memo.
A fifth-round draft pick in 2013 from Wisconsin, Wagner signed a four-year, $2.281 million contract. He had a $495,000 base salary last season.
Wagner started every game at right tackle until he suffered a season-ending Lisfranc foot sprain against the Houston Texans on Dec. 21. He allowed just two sacks in 15 games and graded out as one of the top players at his position in the league.
The additional money doesn't count against the NFL salary-cap limit of $143.28 million. The fund was created in 2002 under the collective bargaining agreement to supplement player compensation.
The money is computed through an index based on a players' regular-season playing time, fully salary, prorated portion of signing bonus and earned incentives compared against other players on the roster.
Each team was allotted $3.633 million through the agreement between the NFL management council and NFL Players Association.
