Ravens training camp roster breakdown: Tight ends

The Baltimore Sun is breaking down where the Ravens stand at each position, including predictions on how many players the team will keep at each spot and which players are locks, long shots or "on the bubble."

Tight ends

How many they'll keep: 3 or 4

Locks if healthy: Dennis Pitta, Crockett Gillmore, Maxx Williams, Nick Boyle

Long shots: Allen Reisner, Konrad Reuland

Skinny: No disrespect to Reisner and Reuland, who both spent time on the Ravens' practice squad in 2014, but the only question at tight end is whether Pitta decides to play and if he does, when he might be ready to return. As of last month, Pitta wasn't cleared by doctors to attempt another comeback from a fractured and dislocated hip, an injury that he's now had in back-to-back years. If he's cleared, Pitta's receiving skills and rapport with Joe Flacco gives the Ravens passing game a boost. If he's not, Pitta could either retire or start the season on the physically unable to perform list. The Ravens are covered either way, and have placed him on the PUP list for the start of camp. Gillmore has made huge strides from his rookie season. The improvement in his receiving skills make him the likely starter. Draft picks Williams and Boyle have different skill sets and both will be counted on to contribute immediately.
