Ravens long snapper Morgan Cox tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, ending his season.
The injury will require surgery to repair the damage. A magnetic resonance imaging exam will be conducted Monday to confirm the initial diagnosis from team doctors.
Cox previously tore the ACL in his left knee four years ago against the Cleveland Browns.
"I planted, I got blocked, and it didn't feel good after that," Cox said after Sunday's game. "I've done it once before. I was running down the field and trying to turn the returner back in. I felt a lot of pain. I pretty much assumed it was pretty serious. I was hoping it was less serious.
"I know what it takes. Plus, I get to be around my guys. I get to be around everybody, which is a good thing."
Cox was injured late in the fourth quarter. Defensive tackle Haloti Ngata replaced Cox as the long snapper and successfully snapped to holder Sam Koch for an extra point by kicker Justin Tucker after wide receiver Torrey Smith's touchdown catch.
Cox will be placed on injured reserve, and the Ravens will sign a replacement for the rest of the season.
"It [stinks]," punter and holder Sam Koch said of Cox's injury. "It [stinks] from a friend standpoint, it [stinks] from a teammate standpoint. We're going to have to adjust and move forward. We're going to have to find somebody who can do what Morgan can do. Quite honestly, there's nobody in the world that can do what Morgan can do.
"To be as accurate as Morgan is, there's not another long snapper like him. Somebody is going to have to come in here and fill a lot of shoes, I mean a lot and just do a great job."
