CINCINNATI — Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith was carted off the field with a sprained left foot Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Smith didn't return. He'll undergo a magnetic resonance imaging exam to determine the extent of the damage to his foot, according to a source.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Torrey Smith (Maryland) is being evaluated for a potential concussion. He was cleared through the NFL concussion testing protocol and went back in the game. Rookie wide receiver Michael Campanaro (River Hill) suffered a hamstring injury and won't return.
Jimmy Smith was injured on the Bengals' opening drive and tried to jog off the field, but he was limping noticeably and couldn't put much weight on his left foot. He injured his left ankle as a rookie.
While being examined by team doctors on the sideline, Jimmy Smith's left cleat was taken off. He was then placed on a cart and driven off the field to the locker room for further examination.
Without Jimmy Smith, the Ravens are extremely short at cornerback with nickel back Dominique Franks now having to become the primary cornerback opposite veteran starter Lardarius Webb. Backup cornerback Chykie Brown is inactive Sunday.
The Ravens can also utilize their faster safeties, Matt Elam and Terrence Brooks, as nickel backs.
In the second quarter, right guard Marshal Yanda headed inside to the locker room, but he later went back into the game after jogging onto the field.
Left guard Kelechi Osemele left the game with an apparent eye injury and was replaced briefly by rookie guard John Urschel, but he returned. And left tackle Eugene Monroe left the game and was replaced by rookie James Hurst before later returning.
Monroe said him leaving the game was by design and he was just being rested and didn't experience a setback with his right knee. Monroe missed the previous four games after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.
