Maryland freshman wide receiver Juwann Winfree has been suspended two games by the athletic department for violating the school's student-athlete code of conduct, the university announced Monday night.
Winfree, one of the prized pieces of Maryland's past recruiting class, had worked his way into the Terps' wide receiver rotation and was one of few bright spots for the offense in Saturday's 37-15 loss to No. 12 Michigan State at Byrd Stadium.
Winfree, 6 feet 2, 195 pounds, had four catches for 80 yards and a touchdown against the Spartans and has 10 catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns on the season.
The suspension further depletes a Terps wide receiving corps that has lost Levern Jacobs to a seasonlong suspension, Taivon Jacobs to a season-ending knee injury and star Stefon Diggs to a lacerated kidney, which he suffered against Penn State on Nov. 1.
Diggs' status for the final two games of the regular season is uncertain.
