Pre-game: Orioles vs. Blue Jays

Some tidbits from Buck Showalter's pre-game conference:

Orioles reliever Jim Johnson remains hospitalized with an infection. Showalter said doctors are doing tests to rule out what is causing the flu symptoms. He has been in the hospital since Monday night. Showalter said he has been texting Johnson and is more concerned with what the problem is than when he'll pitch. Pedro Strop got the save Wednesday night.

Lefty Tsuyoshi Wada will seek a second opinion on his left elbow from renowned surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum in California. Yocum, the Los Angeles Angels team doctor, did the initial physical on Wada before he signed with the Orioles. A MRA taken Tuesday on Wada showed ligament damage. Showalter said he is hopeful that Wada will need only rest and rehab, although surgery is a possibility. The appointment hasn't been scheduled.

Catcher Taylor Teagarden (back) is not progressing, and doctors are considering giving him a third epidural injection in his back. Showalter said if that doesn't work, then another course of action will have to be pursued.

Lefty Zach Britton (shoulder) is progressing with his rehab and is nearing a return to throwing from a mound.

Showalter said the club has nine guys on their roster with flu symptoms or upper-respiratory problems right now.

Robert Andino's wife had the couple's third child and first girl Wednesday afternoon, Amarise Hazel. She was 8 pounds. Righty Jason Berken has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk while Andino is on the paternity list.

Nolan Reimold (neck spasms) is progressing and is taking batting practice today. Endy Chavez continues to replace him in left field and at leadoff.
