If you just looked at the cumulative numbers for the Orioles offense the past six games, you would think that they had a pretty strong week. O’s hitters batted a combined .292 with a .335 on-base percentage – both numbers higher than their overall mark. But the numbers are particularly deceptive because the Orioles hammered the hapless San Diego Padres for 23 runs and 29 hits in two games before scoring just 15 runs on 37 hits in four games against the Mariners. For some reason, they just did not carry any momentum into Seattle, and it wasn’t just because of the opposing starting pitchers. They weren’t that good. It seemed like the Orioles just forgot the approach that carried them through a record-breaking June. There were some individual highlights. Jonathan Schoop and Hyun Soo Kim both batted .400 for the week, while Mark Trumbo stayed atop the major league home run rankings and Chris Davis hit three homers to raise his season total to 21.
