Palmeiro's son, Surhoff's nephew among players who could get drafted this week

The Orioles don’t have a top 5 pick in this year’s amateur draft, which begins Thursday night.

But there could be a player with distant ties to the organization getting selected that early.

Colin Moran, a third baseman from the University of North Carolina, is the nephew of former Orioles outfielder B.J. Surhoff – and he could go as high as No. 1.

Moran is one of several relatives of former and current big leaguers who could be picked in the three-day draft, as highlighted in an extensive list put together by Baseball America’s Conor Glassey.

Among the others are the sons of Manny Ramirez, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte and Craig Biggio.

Former Oriole Rafael Palmeiro’s son Preston could get drafted as a first baseman out of Heritage High School in Frisco, Texas.

And veteran lefty Jamie Moyer, who spent a brief part of last season with Triple-A Norfolk, may see his son Dillon, a shortstop from UC San Diego, get selected.
