Orioles' regulars in the lineup for Wednesday's spring home opener

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Orioles are hosting their spring training home opener this afternoon against the Detroit Tigers at Ed Smith Stadium.

The Orioles lost to the Tigers, 15-2, in Tuesday's Grapefruit League opener in Lakeland. But this will be the first time we see most of the Orioles starters in a game this spring.

Matt Wieters, not cleared to catch in an official game until March 17, will be the designated hitter.

Right-hander Kevin Gausman will start on the mound.

Here is the Orioles' starting lineup for this afternoon (1:05 first pitch):

Alejandro De Aza RF
J.J. Hardy SS
Adam Jones CF
Matt Wieters DH
Chris Davis 1B
Delmon Young LF
Manny Machado 3B
Ryan Flaherty 2B
Caleb Joseph C
Kevin Gausman RHP

Start scouting the Rays

More than one month before Opening Day, the Orioles already know what pitchers they will face in the first series of the regular season at Tampa Bay.

The Rays announced Wednesday morning that right-hander Alex Cobb will start Opening Day against the Orioles on April 6.

Cobb is 4-1 with a 1.84 ERA in eight career starts (49 innings) against the Orioles.

Right-hander Chris Archer and lefty Drew Smyly will start the next two games for the Rays.
