Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts doing light work

SARASOTA, FLA. — Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts, who has been remarkably elusive this spring camp, emerged from the indoor batting cages at the Ed Smith Stadium complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Roberts, who had just taken swings off a tee from both sides of the plate for about 15 minutes, declined to speak with the media until Friday but did say he has been swinging off a tee, playing catch and doing some light lifting.

"Progression," Roberts said with a slight smile.

Roberts, who has been limited to 98 games over the past two years with concussion symptoms, has yet to take live batting practice or field ground balls.

A Sarasota resident, he's been training at the team's minor league facility and now at the Orioles' newly remodeled complex at Ed Smith Stadium.
