Orioles release 2017 spring training schedule

The Orioles released their spring training schedule for next season and the team's 34-game exhibition schedule will include a game against the Dominican Republic World Baseball Classic team on March 7 at Ed Smith Stadium.

Games will begin earlier than normal because of the World Baseball Classic. The Orioles' first Grapefruit League game will be on Feb. 24 against the Detroit Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. Two days later, the Orioles will open their home schedule against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Ed Smith Stadium.

The Orioles have only one scheduled split-squad day. On March 3, they will host the Minnesota Twins at 7:05 p.m. and play on the road against the New York Yankees in Tampa. A start time for that game has not yet been determined.

But the highlight of the schedule – at least for fans – has to be the team's exhibition game against the reigning WBC champion Dominican Republic team. Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, a Miami native of Dominican descent, has committed to playing for the Dominican's WBC entry.

The schedule will include two off days: March 9 and March 23.

As of now, there are four home 7:05 p.m. night games on the schedule: March 3 against Minnesota, March 16 against Philadelphia, March 22 against Tampa Bay and March 25 against Minnesota.

Out of their 17 spring home games, the Orioles will host the Phillies three times and play the Red Sox, Tigers, Twins, Pirates, Rays and Blue Jays two times. Their 17-game road slate will include four trips to Bradenton to play the Pirates and two road games against the Rays, Red Sox, Tigers, Twins and Yankees.

Whether the sports season is just beginning or coming to a close, athletes gotta eat. Here, Ravens and Orioles share their top restaurant picks in the Baltimore area (and their pre- and post-game rituals).

Here is the complete schedule.
