The Orioles recalled catcher Steve Clevenger and designated catcher Ryan Lavarnway for assignment before Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros.
Clevenger, a Pigtown native and Mount Saint Joseph graduate, was hitting .352 with a .413 on-base percentage and .451 slugging percentage with two homers and 14 RBIs in 27 games at Triple-A Norfolk.
The move to recall Clevenger comes on the same day that All-Star and Gold Glove backstop Matt Wieters begins his minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie tonight.
Wieters, who has been recovering from Tommy John elbow surgery performed last June, is eligible to come off the disabled list on June 4.
Lavarnway was 3-for-28 in 10 games with the Orioles. He was hitless in his last 13 at bats over his last five games.
J.J. Hardy is back in the starting lineup tonight after exiting the game Monday with back tightness.
Here is Tuesday night's Orioles starting lineup:
Manny Machado 3B; Jimmy Paredes DH; Adam Jones CF; Chris Davis 1B; Steve Pearce 2B; Delmon Young RF; J.J. Hardy SS; David Lough LF; Caleb Joseph C; Chris Tillman RHP
