Pre-game: Orioles vs. Yankees

The Orioles -- fresh off their season-opening, three-game sweep of the Twins -- host the Yankees tonight for the opening of a three-game series.

The Bronx Bombers are 0-3, reeling from being swept out of Tampa Bay.

Tonight, the Orioles send left-hander Brian Matusz to the hill to face 16-game winner Ivan Nova. Forget about the weekend's domination of the Twins. This begins a string of six games against AL East opponents.

Some other news of note: Left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada made his first start in extended spring training in Florida. He threw six innings and 88 pitches (definitely in the range of the 90 pitches the Orioles want him at). Wada has two more starts, his next one coming Saturday, until the Orioles could bring him to Baltimore. His role once he arrives is still uncertain.

Additionally, left-hander Zach Britton, also still in Sarasota after receiving platelet-rich plasma treatment for shoulder inflammation, is scheduled to throw for the first time Thursday. He's on a timetable that won't get him back to Baltimore until early-May at the earliest, but Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he'll see how Britton's first few throwing sessions go before predicting any sort of return.
