SARASOTA, Fla. –The Orioles are playing the Braves in a 1:05 p.m. start here at Ed Smith Stadium.
Right-hander Jason Hammel will make his Orioles Grapefruit League debut, throwing the first two innings for Baltimore.
-- Some very good news for Orioles fans: Right fielder Nick Markakis, recovering from offseason abdominal surgery, is slotted to DH in the Orioles' home game against the Pirates on March 14.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter has long had an idea of how many spring at-bats Markakis would need heading into the season. His spring debut seems to be slightly ahead of schedule, as it would be in the team's 11th spring training game.
Keep in mind, though, that he's playing designated hitter only. When Markakis is back in right field will be a more true indicator of his recovery.
-- Catcher Michael Ohlman, who was involved in an automobile accident in which his truck was flipped onto its roof, will get a second opinion on his injured shoulder before choosing whether to rehabilitate the injury or have surgery.

-- Sunday will be a big day at the Ed Smith Stadium complex. Before the Orioles' afternoon game against the Red Sox, several pitchers will be throwing in a "B" game on the back fields. Tommy Hunter will throw three innings, and Jim Johnson and Zach Britton will throw one inning each. It will likely be Dylan Bundy's final big league camp outing. Willie Eyre will also throw in that game. Showalter said Tsuyoshi Wada isn't scheduled to throw in that game as of yet.
