Orioles open up second half in Oakland against unfamiliar foe

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Orioles open the second half of their season tonight in Oakland, their first stop in a three-city, 10-game West Coast road trip.
Oakland (59-36) comes out of the break with the best record in baseball. The Orioles (52-42) are 11-6 against the American League West this season; their .647 winning percentage is the highest of any AL team against the division.
Chris Tillman is 1-0 with a 1.96 ERA in three starts against the Athleitcs.
The Orioles never have faced Oakland starter Jeff Samardzija, who came to the A's in a trade with the Cubs that also brought former Orioles starter Jason Hammel to Oakland.
Only three Orioles players ever have faced Samardzija. J.J. Hardy is 0-for-3, and Steve Pearce is 1-for-5. Nick Hundley, who isn't starting tonight, is 1-for-7 against Samardzija.
