Orioles (53-39) vs. New York Yankees (47-46)
Where: Yankee Stadium
First pitch: 7:05 p.m.
TV/Radio: MASN/105.7 The Fan
Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Yovani Gallardo (3-1, 5.77 ERA) vs. Yankees RHP Michael Pineda (3-9, 5.56 ERA)
What to watch
1. Missing some tools: Chris Davis, Matt Wieters and now Manny Machado? The Orioles will look to break out of their offensive slump after three straight losses with some key pieces missing from the starting lineup. Davis hasn't played since Sunday because of a stomach virus and is out again. Matt Wieters is out for a second straight game ater being hit on the foot. Machado was also out sick. Will the Orioles' shorthanded lineup be able to put some runs on the board after scoring just six over the past four games?
2. Just enough: Yovani Gallardo has a 5.04 ERA since being activated from the disabled list on June 18, and his peripheral numbers aren't too impressive. But he has given the Orioles a chance to win most days, allowing three runs or fewer in five of six starts. However, he has only once pitched more than 5 1/3 innings during that stretch. Can Gallardo be effective and pitch a little deeper in New York?
3. Slim margin: The Orioles' lead in the American League East is down to a half-game over the Boston Red Sox, 1 1/2 games over the Toronto Blue Jays and 6 1/2 over the Yankees. Will the Orioles stop their slide at three to maintain their edge atop the division?
