Orioles on deck: What to watch Wednesday at Red Sox

Orioles (16-9) vs. Red Sox (14-12)

Where: Fenway Park

First pitch: 7:10 p.m.

TV/Radio: MASN/105.7 FM

Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Kevin Gausman (1-2, 7.50 ERA) vs. Red Sox LHP Drew Pomeranz (2-1, 4.15 ERA)

What to watch

1. What's next? The Orioles would probably like to get back to playing some baseball, but the circus in Boston doesn't seem to end. No prediction here on whether this feud keeps escalating. Perhaps Major League Baseball will finally put an end to this before it gets any uglier and players get hurt.

2. Gausman's slump. Kevin Gausman was on the verge of completing one of his best starts of a difficult season Friday in New York. Instead, he allowed three runs in the sixth and was charged with one more in the seventh to finish with five earned runs in six innings in an eventual 14-11 loss. Gausman had a chance to lower his ERA that day; instead it stuck right at 7.50. Not good.

3. Lefty lineup getting a workout. The Orioles again have Hyun Soo Kim and Seth Smith on the bench because of a left-handed starter for the fourth time in six games. Joey Rickard leads off and Trey Mancini plays left field with Mark Trumbo batting in front of Chris Davis. The Orioles are batting .230 against lefties this season, and have scored just three times in 11 1/3 innings in two games against Drew Pomeranz this season.
