What to watch
1. In trouble: It took just one game in this series for the Orioles to find their division title hopes in trouble. Losing the first game of this four-game set dropped the Orioles four games out of first place, putting them in position to need two wins in the next three against a hot Red Sox club just to end the series in the same position as when it started. The Orioles are doing fine in the wild-card race, tied with the Toronto Blue Jays, 2 1/2 ahead of the Detroit Tigers and three ahead of the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners. But if they don't want a one-game playoff to be their focus, the Orioles need to take some games from the Red Sox this week.
2. Encore, Part III: Kevin Gausman makes his first start since throwing eight scoreless innings in Boston on Sept. 14. He has a 0.82 ERA over his past five starts and four scoreless outings during that stretch. He is the right pitcher to have on the mound right now with the Orioles needing a win.
3. Shake it up: Buck Showalter shook up his batting order and loaded it with right-handed bats for tonight's meeting against former Orioles lefty prospect Eduardo Rodriguez. The Orioles had just four hits in Monday's loss, and tonight have a fresh order. Chris Davis, the lone lefty bat, is in the No. 2 hole, Jonathan Schoop moves up to fifth, Nolan Reimold is in left batting ninth and Trey Mancini makes his major league debut as the designated hitter.
