Orioles call up Fry, option Crichton

The Orioles called up left-hander Paul Fry from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned right-hander Stefan Crichton to the Tides before Tuesday's game.

Fry, 24, who was acquired from the Seattle Mariners on April 14, has never pitched in the majors. He pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings over two appearances with Norfolk since the trade.

Crichton, 25, has allowed three runs in three innings (9.00) with the Orioles this season. He most recently allowed one run in 1 1/3 innings in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

What to watch

1. Clutch. How have the Orioles started 13-5 despite an offense that ranks in the middle of the pack in everything but home runs? Their situational hitting has been on point. The club ranks third in the American League in average (.287), home runs (six) and OPS (.831) with runners in scoring position.

2. Watch Wade. Wade Miley has been one of the most pleasant surprises this month, leading Orioles starters with 24 strikeouts and ranking second with a 1.89 ERA through three starts. He pitched an absolute gem in his most recent outing, fanning 11, walking one and allowing one run on two hits in Cincinnati.

3. Not your normal fill-in. Erasmo Ramirez has provided above-average rotation depth to the Rays for years, and is being called upon to provide it again with Jake Odorizzi out. He allowed one run on two hits in five innings in his first start of the year and has allowed two runs in nine innings over hist past two outings.
