Orioles call up McFarland
The Orioles recalled left-hander T.J. McFarland from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.
McFarland, 27, went 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA over five games (four starts) with Norfolk this season. In 14 games with the Orioles this season, McFarland has gone 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA. McFarland joined the Orioles as the 26th man for Saturday's doubleheader, but that still counted toward his required 10 days before he could be recalled after being optioned.
What to watch
1. History knocks. With three games left this month, the Orioles have hit 51 home runs in June and are seven away from tying the record for most home runs in any month in major league history (58 by the Seattle Mariners in 1999 and the Orioles in 1987). Can the Orioles continue to send balls over the fence in their quest to become the new home run kings?
2. Going to the U. Ubaldo Jimenez cracked open the door for a chance to return to the Orioles rotation last Wednesday with his first quality start since May 7. He allowed two runs on four hits in six innings, and struck out seven but walked four against the same Padres he'll face tonight. Can he again give the Orioles a chance to win?
3. On the road again. The Orioles are 15 games over .500 on the season, and that's largely because of a major league-best 31 home wins. The road is another story. They're 14-17 away from Camden Yards and have the third-fewest road wins in the American League. Will the streaking Orioles find road success in San Diego?
