Orioles on deck: What to watch Thursday vs. Red Sox

Orioles (29-22) vs. Boston Red Sox (32-21)

Where: Camden Yards

First pitch: 7:05 p.m.

TV/Radio: MASN/105.7 The Fan

Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (2-6, 6.36 ERA) vs. Red Sox RHP Rick Porcello (7-2, 3.68 ERA)

What to watch

1. Slowing the struggle bus. After averaging 3.2 runs and batting .216 as a team over the 10 games before Wednesday, the Orioles broke out with a season-high 13 runs on 14 hits, none of which were homers. Every starter reached base and five Orioles had multiple RBIs. Was that a momentary breakout or the start of an offensive resurgence in the warmer temperatures?

2. Chances running out. Ubaldo Jimenez's awful month -- 1-4, 8.28 ERA in six May starts -- has put his rotation spot in jeopardy. How he fares tonight could potentially determine whether the Orioles can trust him to take his next turn. Will Jimenez begin to emerge from his slump to help the Orioles earn a four-game split with the Red Sox?

3. Power fizzle. The Orioles have gone three straight games without a homer for just the third time this season and first time since May 5-7. Before that, the Orioles were on a 233-homer pace. Will the power return against Rick Porcello, who allows one long ball per nine innings in his career?
