Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Tyler Wilson (1-1, 5.40 ERA) vs. Red Sox RHP Kyle Kendrick (NR)

What to watch

1. Side effect No. 1. After Kevin Gausman got tossed in the second inning Wednesday, the Orioles' pitching staff was immediately thrown out of whack for the coming days. The bullpen had to cover eight innings in the loss to the Red Sox, with lefty Richard Bleier and righty Ubaldo Jimenez, the originally scheduled starter Thursday, covering much of it. So, up comes Tyler Wilson to make tonight's start and Gabriel Ynoa to add a fresh arm to the bullpen. It will be worth watching just how hamstrung the Orioles will be, or if they can overcome the obstacles to leave Boston with a split.

2. Kim, Smith return. With a righty starting for the Red Sox after the Orioles faced four left-handers in six games, Hyun Soo Kim makes his first start since Saturday and Seth Smith makes his first since Monday. Smith is just 2-for-16 over his past four games, and Kim has a .944 OPS over his past five games.

3. Shenanigans. Of course what everyone will be watching is whether these teams can just go through one night of normal baseball. The Orioles and Red Sox don't see each other again until they open June with another (!) four-game series, this time at Camden Yards. Let's see if all can quiet down before the Orioles leave Beantown.

CF Adam Jones
3B Manny Machado
1B Chris Davis
