Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Kevin Gausman (4-7, 6.07 ERA) vs. Rays RHP Alex Cobb (6-5, 3.73 ERA)

What to watch

1. Avoid the sweep. The Orioles went from having won three in a row and getting Dan Duquette to talk about being a buyer at the trade deadline to having lost three of four games entering this afternoon. The Orioles have been swept at home only once this season, by the Minnesota Twins in late May, and they're trying to avoid a second sweep.

2. Gausman curiosity. Kevin Gausman is coming off an odd outing, his first scoreless start of the season, where he said he felt like he had to battle and lacked quality stuff. Gausman has allowed three runs in 11 innings over his past two starts, but he has failed to pitch six innings since his first game in June. How he fares is always of note.

3. When will it end. Before ending June with an 0-for-15 drought, Manny Machado was having a pretty good month. His numbers were much closer to his career norms even if his season numbers still weren't. But he has dipped back into a slump. After a one-hit day Saturday, he's 1-for-19 over his past five games. With All-Stars being announced today, he isn't hitting like one.
