Orioles on deck: What to watch Sunday at Yankees

Orioles (88-73) vs. Yankees (84-77)

Where: Yankee Stadium

First pitch: 3:05 p.m.

TV/Radio: MASN/105.7 The Fan

Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Kevin Gausman (8-12, 3.66 ERA) vs. Yankees RHP Luis Cessa (4-3, 4.18 ERA)

What to watch

1. Split screen: Baseball has set up another exciting finish with all games starting at the same time this afternoon, and plenty is on the line for the Orioles. While their season won't end today, they could clinch a playoff berth or be left waiting another day to find out if they'll have to play a tiebreaker to reach the postseason. Read more on the scenarios here.

2. Best foot forward: The Orioles will send arguably their best pitching option to the mound for their most important game of the year. Kevin Gausman has a 3.15 ERA since the All-Star break, but the Orioles need him to be better than he was his past two outings: he has allowed nine earned runs in his past 12 1/3 innings.

3. Chris Davis' turn? Manny Machado ended a slump at the plate with a home run Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Could Chris Davis follow suit? He has hits in three straight games, raising his batting average to .179 over his past 21 games (ouch). But he hasn't hit a home run or driven in a run since Sept. 16 and Sept. 24, respectively. Davis could use a jolt heading into whatever awaits after Sunday.
