Starting pitchers: Orioles LHP Wade Miley (4-7, 4.97 ERA) vs. Cubs RHP Jake Arrieta (8-7, 4.35 ERA)

What to watch

1. Welcome back, Jake. Jake Arrieta makes his first start back at Camden Yards (and second against the Orioles) since being traded to the Cubs for Scott Feldman in 2013. The story is well known at this point -- Arrieta blossomed into a Cy Young Award winner, and Feldman departed Baltimore at the end of the season. Arrieta hasn't been himself this year with his ERA above 4.30 since his fifth start of the year. He has been doing better with a 3.63 ERA over his past eight starts.

2. What's next? The Orioles' starting pitching problems continued in their first game back from the break. Kevin Gausman allowed eight runs in just three innings. The Orioles impressively stormed back to tie the game at 8, but like a 15-pitch at-bat that ends with a simple popout, they ended up losing, 9-8. Will they bounce back to even the series?

3. Miley mo. Wade Miley makes his first start after the break, and his first since going into it with his best start since May. He allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings. He had an 11.69 ERA over his previous eight starts. Miley has solid career marks against the Cubs, as he's 4-1 with a 3.46 ERA in six starts.

The Orioles know it can be costly at the trade deadling, having dealt a bona fide major league starter away in each of the last four Julys.
