Orioles on deck: What to watch Saturday at Yankees

Orioles (14-7) vs. Yankees (14-7)

Where: Yankee Stadium

First pitch: 1:05 p.m.

TV/Radio: MASN, WJZ/105.7 FM

Starting pitchers: Orioles RHP Ubaldo Jimenez (1-0, 5.95 ERA) vs. Yankees RHP Michael Pineda (2-1, 3.86 ERA)

What to watch

1. Devastated or uplifted. How the Orioles respond to Friday night's painful 14-11 loss is the No. 1 thing to watch this afternoon. The Orioles led 9-1 with 12 outs to go. And they lost. They gave up five home runs, had Brad Brach collapse in the ninth and let the Yankees finish them off in the 10th. Could it be the start of a downturn or was it just one game?

2. Getting offensive. The biggest positive the Orioles can take from Friday's loss was that they scored 11 runs after a stretch scoring three runs or fewer in six of nine games. Mark Trumbo hit a grand slam. Manny Machado drove in three runs. The Orioles offense just might be on the verge of a breakout.

3. Unpredictable. One start Ubaldo Jimenez pitches 7 2/3 scoreless innings; the next, he can't make it out of the fourth. The Orioles could use another dose of good Ubaldo in order to avoid falling out of first place for the first time this season.
