What to watch

1. This could be it: The Orioles started this critical homestand with a four-game split with the Tampa Bay Rays, and that's the minimum result they can afford in this four-game visit from the Boston Red Sox if they want to remain in the American League East race. The Orioles go into the series three games behind the Red Sox for first place after Boston swept four games from the New York Yankees. The Orioles still lead the wild-card race -- by one game over the Toronto Blue Jays and by three over the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners. Right now, it's about first place and this series could determine whether the Orioles will have a chance to avoid the one-game wild-card playoff.

2. Bundy's turn: The Orioles succeeded in being able to line up Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman for the first two games against the Red Sox. But it will be interesting to see which Bundy they get. The right-hander has struggled to a 6.21 ERA over his past six starts, elevating his ERA from 2.93 to 3.88. The 23-year-old was better his last time out, however, with three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings enough to get a win over these same Red Sox.

3. Encore, Part II: The Orioles see Rick Porcello again one start after handing him his second loss since mid-May and fourth of the season. Porcello partook in the outstanding 1-0 Orioles win where both the Red Sox righty and Gausman pitched eight excellent innings. Only Gausman held Boston off the scoreboard. This time Porcello gets to go head to head with the Orioles' other promising young starter, and fans can only hope for a similar result against baseball's only 20-game winner this season.
