Orioles on deck: What to watch Monday at Red Sox

Orioles (78-64) vs. Red Sox (80-62)

Where: Fenway Park

First pitch: 7:10 p.m.

TV/Radio: MASN2/105.7 The Fan

Starting pitchers: Orioles LHP Wade Miley (8-12, 5.49 ERA) vs. Red Sox LHP David Price (15-8, 3.87 ERA)

What to watch

1. Division push: The Orioles head to Boston with an opportunity to cool the heating Red Sox and overtake them for the American League East lead. The Orioles enter the three-game series tied for second place, trailing the Red Sox by two games. They also enter in a more comfortable position in the wild-card race, tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for the first spot and leading the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees by two games.

2. Lefty-lefty: With ace David Price starting for the Red Sox, the Orioles answer with left-hander Wade Miley, who will be making his first start since Sept. 4 when he allowed four runs in five innings. It will be Miley's first start at Fenway Park since he pitched for the Red Sox a year ago, when he went 7-5 with a 4.30 ERA in 14 home starts. Price goes into the outing on an upswing, having gone 6-0 with a 2.14 ERA over his past six starts.

3. Lefty masher: Steve Pearce has been exceptional against left-handers this season with seven homers and a 1.065 OPS in 92 plate appearances. He gets another chance to add to those numbers against one of the best, Price, who Pearce has faced more than all but one pitcher in his career. Pearce has 28 career plate appearances against Price, only topped by his 33 against Blue Jays lefty J.A. Happ. Head-to-head, Pearce has a solid .280/.357/.400 line with a home run and four RBIs against Price.
