O'Day to DL, Wright called back up
One day after being sent to the minors, right-hander Mike Wright has been called back up by the Orioles. He takes the roster spot of setup man Darren O'Day, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.
Wright, 26, has gone 2-3 with a 5.88 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 10 games (nine starts) for the Orioles this season.
O'Day, 33, is 2-1 with a 3.15 ERA, two saves and 25 strikeouts in 22 games with the Orioles this season, the first of a new four-year contract with the club.
What to watch
1. Lucky 7. Chris Tillman might have ended his streak of quality starts at seven by allowing four runs in six innings his last time out, but he still extended his winning streak to six. Tillman hasn't lost since April 14 and one of his best outings came against tonight's opponent (one earned run in seven innings on May 3). Can the Orioles ace make it seven straight victories tonight against the Yankees?
2. NO'Day. Darren O'Day went on the DL on Friday afternoon, removing a key piece from the Orioles bullpen for at least the next couple of weeks. Luckily, the club is deep in late-inning relievers with Brad Brach and Mychal Givens joining closer Zach Britton. How will the Orioles handle the seventh and eighth innings if they're holding a tight lead tonight?
3. On the offensive. With wins in their past two games against the Boston Red Sox, the Orioles broke out offensively with their two highest-scoring games of the season. Tonight, those heating bats take on Nathan Eovaldi, who has allowed two runs in 18 innings over his past three starts. Will the Birds keep it going against a hot pitcher?
