What to watch

1. Wieters returns: Having missed six days with a bruised foot after being plunked there by a fastball on July 18, Matt Wieters is back in the lineup at catcher. Caleb Joseph did an admirable job in Wieters' absence, starting six straight games and heating up at the plate with hits in his past four games. Wieters had been struggling at the time of his injury with one hit in 25 at-bats. Will the time off help Wieters emerge from his slump?

2. Gallardo goes deep? Yovani Gallardo pitched seven innings in his most recent outing, marking his first start longer than six frames since June 27, 2015. Yes, he allowed four runs in a loss to the New York Yankees. But he better preserved the bullpen and kept the Orioles offense within striking distance. Could it be the start of a trend or was it an outlier amid a year of shorter starts?

3. Back on top: Those streaky Birds have again won four in a row, largely fueled by a return home and a subsequent three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians. That has pushed their remarkable record at Camden Yards to 36-14, their overall record to 17 games over .500 and their lead in the American League East to 1 1/2 games. The Rockies come in similarly hot, having outscored the lowly Atlanta Braves 26-12 in a four-game sweep. But like the Orioles, most of the Rockies' success comes at home, where they're 25-24 as opposed to 22-27 on the road. Will the Orioles continue their winning ways against the surging Rockies?
