Orioles call up Wright, place Tillman on DL
The Orioles officially placed right-hander Chris Tillman on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder bursitis (retroactive to Aug. 21) on Wednesday, and called up right-hander Mike Wright from Triple-A Norfolk.
Wright, 26, went 3-3 with a 3.17 ERA in 11 starts with the Tides. He is 3-4 with a 5.97 ERA in 14 games (12 starts) with the Orioles.
What to watch
1. Back to NL rules: Pedro Alvarez returns to the bench with the Orioles losing the designated hitter tonight at Nationals Park. The Orioles have done well in interleague play this season, especially when playing in National League parks. They're 6-2 at NL teams, and 10-5 overall. These two games in Washington are the Orioles' last two interleague games of the season. Can they finish strong against their natural rivals?
2. Miley high: Wade Miley makes his fifth Orioles start looking to turn things around after allowing six earned runs in each of his past two outings, spanning six innings between them. His ERA is 9.53 with the Orioles and he has yet to earn a win. Will tonight bring much-needed improvement from the trade deadline acquisition?
3. Standings watch: Two straight wins over the Nationals hasn't gained the Orioles any ground in the division race, as the Boston Red Sox have won two in a row and the Toronto Blue Jays won once. The Orioles still sit two games behind the Red Sox and Blue Jays, who are tied for first. Can the Orioles narrow the margin?
