Baltimore Orioles

Orioles notes: Nolan Reimold, Adam Jones, catchers, lineup

It's not exactly sunny Florida here today in Sarasota. It's been raining off and on most of the morning. The forecast has occasional thunderstorms predicted for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. So, yes, there is a window to play. (I love writing window to play. Can't explain why.)

Nolan Reimold is scheduled to play in left field today for the first time since March 1, when he first developed tightness is his right shoulder. He's been working up to this point while acting as the designated hitter for much of the spring.

Adam Jones is batting third and playing center field -- the first time he has been in the Orioles' lineup since March 1. He took a little break to represent the United States in the World Baseball Classic.

Minor league infielder Jonathan Schoop is back in camp after returning from the WBC. He played for The Netherlands club that made it to the semifinals before losing to eventual champion, the Dominican Republic. He'll likely sit a day or so before getting into a game.

Speaking of the Dominicans, the country's flag was perched above the lockers of Alexi Casilla and Wilson Betemit today. They grabbed the flag from a display in one of the Ed Smith complex hallways. Just wanted to show a little homeland pride.

I'd expect Pedro Strop to be back tomorrow after his DR team won it all. Strop was a key for the club, going 3-0 in 6 2/3 scoreless innings. He gave up three hits, no walks and struck out seven while being credited with two holds.

The Orioles, by the way, still would like to add some catching depth -- the ideal fit would be a defensive-minded catcher with options remaining -- to act as insurance for oft-injured Taylor Teagarden.

But there's not much on the market and several teams looking for the same thing. A guy like Chris Snyder, who signed with the Los Angeles Angels, wasn't a good fit.

Not many are, so the Orioles may end up hoping Chris Robinson or Luis Martinez can fill that role. Luis Exposito, who is still on the 40-man roster, has not been impressive behind the plate.

Here is the Orioles lineup for today:

McLouth 9

Roberts 4

Jones 8

Wieters 2

Davis 3

Hardy DH

Reimold 7

Machado 5

Casilla 6
