Showalter and Yankees manager Joe Girardi involved in heated exchange

Before Showalter left the dugout, there appeared to be some angry banter between Girardi and Orioles third base coach Bobby Dickerson that was caught by the camera of the YES Network, leading to some speculation by the Yankee broadcasters that Girardi may have accused Dickerson of stealing signs.

Showalter denied the accusation after the game.

"I'm pretty sure that's what [Girardi said]," Showalter said. "If we were doing that, Manny wouldn't have bunted, right, if we had the pitches?"

Said Girardi: "The one thing that I've done the whole time I've been here and everywhere I've been, I'm going to protect our players always,'' Girardi said. "That's what I'm going to do and it was something I saw and I'm just going to leave it at that."

When the dust settled, Showalter was asked if the matter is resolved.

Both teams congregated behind home plate until order was restored and there were no ejections, but the umpires did talk to both managers afterward and delivered a warning about any possible on-field retaliation.

When asked if the incident fired up his team, Showalter said that wasn't his goal.
