LOS ANGELES — The Orioles made a flurry of roster moves before their interleague series opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers, recalling outfielder Dariel Alvarez from Triple-A Norfolk and left-hander Jayson Aquino from Double-A Bowie.

To make room for the two players, the Orioles optioned left-hander Ariel Miranda to Triple-A and placed designated hitter Pedro Alvarez on the three-day bereavement list.

Dariel Alvarez, a 27-year-old Cuban outfielder who debuted with the Orioles last season, was hitting .271/.309/.363 with 21 doubles, three homers and 33 RBIs in 82 games for Norfolk.

Aquino, who was acquired in an April 7 trade with the Cardinals for cash, was 4-7 with a 3.25 ERA in 14 appearances (13 starts) with Bowie. He will replace Miranda -- who was with the major league club for just one day, allowing three runs on four hits over two relief innings Sunday in Seattle --  in the Orioles bullpen.

The 23-year-old Aquino pitched to a 2.25 ERA in five June starts, holding opponents to a .215 batting average.

Miranda joined the Orioles Sunday in Seattle when the club optioned right-handed starter Tyler Wilson to Triple-A following his shortest start of the season.

Alvarez is slated to miss all three games in Los Angeles following a death in his family. He left the team following Sunday's game in Seattle for the Dominican Republic for a funeral.

Since both Alvarez and Aquino were already on the organization's 40-man roster, the Orioles weren't forced to make room for their arrival to the major league club.
